"We were only following orders." - Numerous
I feel like we'll be hearing that excuse again if the American Gestapo, also known as ICE, is ever tried for their crimes.
It used to be that trained soldiers would use such an excuse to try and explain why they committed such heinous acts in a foreign country during war time.
However, we all know that this group isn't a fully trained group of soldiers. It's a bunch of idiotic, mostly overweight, undertrained, and over armed mob of scumbags that are attacking, beating and killing American citizens on our own soil.
Renee Good and Alex Pretti (along with the one detainee who was allegedly murdered while in a detention center) were the first but I fear they'll be far from the only.
From the way these masked, murderous assholes wrestle unarmed protesters to the ground and hold them there while spraying mace into their eyes, to the way they use five year olds as bait to coax people out of their homes, to the way they attempt to smash car doors and windows to illegally search and seize innocent victims, to the way they hold people down and fire ten or more bullets into their skulls before clapping and cheering, it's become obvious that they feel no remorse in their actions. No mercy. No shame. No human decency.
During the My Lai Massacre during the Vietnam War, where American soldiers murdered hundreds of innocent old men, women and children (as well as numerous rapes and sexual assaults), some of the perpetrators said that they didn't see the victims as humans but more as rats. As vermin that needed put down. They even took a lunch break in the middle of this carnage before finishing their cold blooded deeds.
Considering "the enemy" as rats didn't begin or end with the My Lai perpetrators. The Nazis constantly used that description for Jews or any undesirables as they conducted the Holocaust. Similar insults were used by the Ottomans who committed genocide against their Armenian population during the early 20th Century.
Based on how ICE is conducting themselves and the verbiage used by the administration to absolve themselves of any wrongdoing, it's very obvious that they see their actions the same: these immigrants and citizens are vermin that need put down; they're not human.
I'd also like to point out something obvious: depending on the source, there's only between 100,000-300,000 illegal immigrants in Minnesota. The two biggest states that house illegal immigrants are Texas and Florida with 1.3 million and 1.2 million, respectively.
Why hasn't Drumpf sent his Brown Shirts to Texas and Florida instead of Minnesota? Because those states have Republican governors while Minnesota's governor is a Democrat.
This isn't about "fighting the good fight" or following the law. It's about Der Fuhrer of America establishing control over his enemies.
Nothing about this administration tells me that they'll stop with these assaults on our own cities and murders will continue as long as they do. Deputy Chief of Staff (and all around piece of shit himself) Stephen Miller has shown as much with him telling ICE "officers" that they have federal immunity and anyone who resists is committing a felony.
It's like a line from the movie Full Metal Jacket:
"Anyone who runs...is a VC. Anyone who stands still...is a well disciplined VC."
No decent human being is laughing about this though.
To anyone affected by ICE, the solution is simple: resist. Don't give those bastards time to ever feel comfortable again. Murder is murder. No matter what their orders might be.
To those who still think that these assholes are necessary for the "big, bad illegal immigrant boogeyman," my response to you is also simple: you're wrong.
This is our country's 250th birthday and I don't feel one ounce of pride about it right now. I know what my country is supposed to represent but it hasn't felt like we've done that for a long time now. Especially since November of 2024.
While I can hope that things will turn around with the midterms this year and the next presidential election in 2028, I won't hold my breath. Never put it past the undecided American voter to be a complete moron.
If we do get some semblance of normalcy back from these two elections, I can hope that these monsters get what they deserve and see the insides of a prison cell for the rest of their miserable lives.
However, based on how we usually treat our war criminals, I won't hold my breath.
Just ask the survivors at My Lai.
