Progressing to the Holidays
Hello, my loves. How was your weekend? I hope it was wonderful.
Mine was spent mostly relaxing. I meant to finish wrapping presents but didn't get that far. I'll probably finish that off either tonight or tomorrow.
I did finish getting some decorations finished outside my house. They're decorative candy canes that lead up to our front door.
I also watched a couple of holiday related movies.
First was Joyeux Noel. It's a dramatic version of the Christmas Truce from World War I. It has POV characters from Germany, France and Scotland as they come together, put down their arms and enjoy some holiday spirit together in No Man's Land.
Being a history buff, I've studied the actual case before. The film does get a lot right about this particular sector that participated in the truce. Obviously, some things are changed for dramatic effect. Others are only slightly altered.
For instance, a French commander mentions having a cat arrested as a spy for going back and forth between German and French lines. Something similar did happen in real life. Only the cat was actually executed by the French for "High Treason." Supposedly, the filmmakers wanted to recreate this but couldn't find any volunteers to shoot such a scene. I'm happy for this because I feel like it would've been major overkill for the movie and (despite being true) would've been unbelievable for audiences.
The second film was the Bill Murray dark comedy Scrooged. It's a super fun and more modern version of A Christmas Carol. You have the usual tropes of the story (mean rich guy; dead partner visits him; three spirits show him the error of his ways; et al). It also features more hilarious and also disturbing imagery (the visuals under the robe of the Ghost of Christmas Future had to have freaked out people when they first saw it).
Overall, a fun couple of movies.
Sunday was spent enjoying football as the playoffs continue in my fantasy football leagues. Also, did everyone see that Lions-Steelers game? THAT! WAS! CRAZY!!!
My mom spent part of the day teaching my daughter how to knit. She needs better knitting needles though. So they're going shopping for those today before they make Christmas cookies. 😊
I also chatted some more with Aerith. While we haven't set a second date yet, I'm still enjoying getting to know her. We do get flirty and also talk about what we're hoping for in life and romance. However, I'm trying not to go overboard with my desires or love bombing her or anything. I'm always worried about doing so and scaring people off.
Hopefully, we can keep progressing forward and that it can lead to something between us. 🙂
