Home for the Holidays
Hello, my loves. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and an amazing holiday week last week.
Mine felt like I was away from work forever and yet not super long at all. Like I'd look up at the clock and the whole day had disappeared.
For my time off, it was mostly spent relaxing at home or just enjoying myself. I did get everything wrapped and put under the tree by Christmas Eve.
We rotate every year who gets my daughter Willow on Christmas morning and who gets her that afternoon. This year was our turn to have her in the afternoon, so we didn't open presents until almost 4 PM.
My mom and I didn't get each other very much. It's a case of being an adult and just getting things when you need them throughout the year. Willow, meanwhile, seemed to have been especially good this year. She got TONS of presents between our house and her mom's house.
I got more socks, tons of gift cards, and my mom also bought me a woman's undergarment. It's a black, silky slip. Not being as familiar with certain undergarments, she sort of explained what it was but I also didn't want to get too involved in such a discussion. A little awkward talking to my mom about certain clothing items lol.
We had some bad batches of weather but still had our family Christmas party this past Saturday. I got another gift card as well as some hand lotion (which I needed anyway), so it was a worthwhile haul.
My family parties are always fun. They're like those classic, old school parties that you always imagine where people dress up in their gawdy Christmas sweaters, eat, joke and just have a good time with each other.
I also got to converse more with my one cousin's boyfriend who's Iranian. Now, I forget if his family moved to the US before or right after the revolution. The point is that he's an American and he's an awesome guy. It's nice having someone with whom I can converse about a number of international topics, especially sports (one of my younger cousins and I used to talk all the time about wrestling and MMA but they don't come to the parties anymore). My cousin definitely found a good guy. 🙂
Another aspect that I enjoyed this past week was all of the sports documentaries on TV. MLB Network aired the Ken Burns Baseball docuseries, there was a history of the SEC docuseries on at one point (which I mostly missed because the weather was seriously affecting dish reception), and just about every ESPN network had some 30 for 30 on in an almost constant loop. Needless to say, that all kept me thoroughly entertained.
I did take the time to watch two Christmas movies on the 25th though: The Year Without a Santa Claus and Home Alone (the first one, which means there was no cameo from a certain orange faced baboon).
As for my recent flame Aerith, her and I have been texting back and forth practically every day now. She's having her friends over on New Year's Eve and I'll be attending. I'm really looking forward to it. 😁
This week, between the new year and my pending birthday is shaping up to be just as eventful as last week. Should be fun!
