The Psychology of Online Dating
Hello, my loves. I hope you had a wonderful weekend.
Mine was fairly standard: errands, watching football, watching scary movies (the entire VHS franchise).
It also included more time on my dating apps. While I do have 1-2 now whom I message regularly and are fairly normal conversations, I still get messages from new people who can be anything but "normal."
Granted, I expect the fetish style messages to come rolling in as it's just the nature of some people in these apps. It's just odd how they start off easy enough and then quickly develop into sexual discussions with the very next message.
This isn't bragging (it might sound like it) but I have gotten likes and messages from a variety of people. The young, the old, the cute, the not so cute, the singles, the couples, the normal, the weird. And everything in between.
I also have started receiving the unsolicited nude pics. While I'm flattered, it's also odd to me that someone would be so "intimate" with someone whom they just started chatting.
Don't get me wrong though: there's nothing wrong with skipping several steps and going straight to sex; as long as both parties are ready for that step.
I also won't lie: it's very flattering that so many people think of me in that way. I can absolutely see why people would pursue others in this fashion.
As humans, we love attention and interaction from others. It's part of our nature. So, when someone continues to compliment us or show us such intimate attention, it's only natural to want to reciprocate; even when our "morals" say we shouldn't.
Well, I won't reciprocate with random people, as it's just not for me. I also won't mislead people just to get nudes or think we're developing into something when we're not. If the other person tries to progress things too quickly despite my objections, then I simply stop responding.
However, if I do find someone with whom I connect on an emotional as well as physical attractiveness basis, then I'd gladly move in that direction.
Until I get to that point, I guess I'll have to sort through the college kids sliding into my DMs who go from telling me "You look perfect 😍" to asking how fat my ass is and to send them a picture.
C'est la vie.
