Eventful Holiday Week Finale: BIRTHDAY!

We now come to this Sunday aka my 39th Birthday!

While my mom and Willow were busy making my cake (chocolate with chocolate peanut butter icing), I picked up Griffin. This trip also included a stop at the store to pick up our lunch and snacks: fried chicken, boneless Nashville hot chicken, Bob Evans brand mashed potatoes, Doritos, corn chips, and chocolate covered pretzels. We were now, officially, ready to party.

I drove us to my house and the festivities began. When we weren't busy pigging out, we were watching Wrestling Kingdom in the Tokyo Dome. It had aired live early that morning but we began at the more normal time of noon.

This year was extra special as it featured the "final" match of Hiroshi Tanahashi (final is in quotation marks because retirements rarely last in pro wrestling). He was the top star during the darkest days of New Japan Pro Wrestling and really kept them afloat until the boom period started in 2012.

A key element to that boom was the rise of Kazuchika Okada. His feud with Tanahashi led to big business in Japan as well as growing awareness worldwide. It was only right that he be Tanahashi's final opponent.

The entire show was super enjoyable for me (I loved seeing Yota Tsuji win the World Title and Aaron Wolf has a bright future as their top star if he keeps improving) but the main event with Okada vs. Tanahashi one last time was better than any of us could've hope for at this point in Tanahashi's career.

It surpassed the hype, it left 46,000 people in the Tokyo Dome on the edge of their seats and it left Griffin and I going crazy for the entire stretch.

In the end, they did the better business move with Okada putting Tanahashi down with the Rainmaker. What followed next was the best retirement ceremony I've ever seen. Numerous past stars came out to pay their respects, followed by a ten bell salute to his career, and Tanahashi finally walking off into the smoke filled staging exit. Wonderful.

During this stretch, I also opened presents. My mom and Willow picked out a shirt that says "Legends are Born in January." It's true lol.

Griffin got me a book that I'm sure I'll talk about later on here once I read it.

We then finished off the day by watching GCW Dream On 2. This was the show Griffin and I attended at the American Dream Mall back in November. He hadn't seen it yet and we at least had to watch the main event.

He was disappointed that the camera didn't catch it when Charles Mason landed in my lap (still a baddie but a cutie 😉) but we did enjoy looking over everything and reminiscing about the show.

By that point, it was time to take Griffin home. Willow had to go back to school the following day for the first time in two weeks. Plus, I was mentally drained from the previous week as well.

I looked over social media and my DMs to see all of my birthday wishes from people, including from Aerith. I always enjoy people taking a few moments out of their day to wish me a happy birthday. I don't interact with people much, so every little bit helps with my mental health.

So, for one last time this week, Happy Birthday to me! 😁
