Was it a Holiday Weekend?

Hello, my loves. I hope you had a great weekend and a lovely Thanksgiving (to those who celebrate it).

Really though, it didn't feel like a usual Thanksgiving this year. Granted, there was all the usual food, the parade on TV, wall to wall football...but the togetherness wasn't really there.

I'd mentioned last week how my family used to have big Thanksgiving parties every year but between people passing on, growing older or just moving away, that hasn't happened for several years now (possibly since COVID, I think).

On Thanksgiving day, we had my daughter in the morning before we dropped her off to my ex at their church. That lead to this exchange:

Ex: Are you guys here yet?

Me: Yeah we just pulled into the parking lot (in fact, the only parking lot the church has).

Ex: The parking lot...on which side of the building?

Me (dumbfounded): The back area where the main parking lot is at. Off the street parking.

Ex: You mean down the back alley?

Me (frustrated now): Yes, where the main parking lot is at for the church.

Ex: Oh! So, by the back door then?

Me (now holding in the urge to scream): Yes.

Off Willow went and off my mom and I went for our meal. To save on extra effort, we went out to a local club for a free Thanksgiving meal. The sides were all great but the turkey was a little dry. But hey, I got out of it what I put into it.

I held off on going out present shopping on Black Friday but did get some gift cards when I went out for groceries. The store I use always gives extra store perks when you buy gift cards that day.

I was possibly taking a trip on Saturday to the nearby college town as Trixie but that fell through. Griffin had to work all weekend and Kitty ended up with plans. So, instead, I went present shopping as my masculine self in my hometown. It was super successful for Willow and I did get a little bit for my mom. I won't say what I got her since she reads these sometimes. 🤫

My shopping isn't completely done but I'll probably end up ordering everything else online. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime (still not a sponsor).

The rest of the weekend was spent by me either watching some level of football or playing through Ghost of Yotei (more on that later this week).

Overall, it was a nice and relaxing four day weekend...but it didn't feel like a holiday. While I dreaded going to those as a kid and a teenager, I look back now and realize that such gatherings are what made the holidays feel like the holidays.

Thankfully, we'll still have our Christmas party but it's really stripped down from how it used to be. Maybe someday, I can find my special person, they'll have a huge holiday party with their family and I can get that feeling back.

If not, oh well. C'est la vie.
