Road Trip: Saturday
When last we left our genderfluid heroine, she had just finished a busy Friday and her internal clock only let her sleep for approximately five hours before she got up for a fun filled Saturday.
So, yeah, I was pretty tired Saturday morning.
Since it was going to be a long day, I wanted to make sure I was fully confident in how I felt and looked.
I started off with what I call the three S's (shower, shave and...well, you know). I then got dressed in my designated outfit for the day: black and white striped leggings, black and white striped long sleeve shirt, Uzumaki T-shirt, my black jacket with white broken hearts and pink trim (would've been perfect had Bret Hart been there), and my military style goth boots with a skull holding a rose in its mouth.
Now, it was supposed to be capped off by a white wig with black undertones to go along with the goth makeup I wanted to use.
Then, disaster struck.
I decided not to test the makeup before my trip and just go in blind. It was a cream to powder style, which was new for me.
Wanting to go for a beauty goth look, it was supposed to be a pale gray look; even and beautiful.
Instead, it was super blotchy and cheap looking. The instructions said "apply lightly for desired look" but after trying to apply three coats on my forehead and looking more akin to a Halloween knockoff vampire, I knew something wasn't right.
I FaceTimed with Kitty to get her thoughts and we both agreed: this makeup just wasn't going to work.
So, I wiped it all off and started again. This time, I applied my standard makeup for my usual look. While the white wig wouldn't work now, I did bring along my favorite black and red wig as a backup. This completed the look perfectly.
After finally getting my look down to where I was happy, I was off to the American Dream Mall for GCW Dream On and the fan fest happening before the show started at 2 PM.
I circled around the ringside area several times and took in the whole set up. There were many tables set up with so many wrestlers and personalities. I wound up getting pictures from Matt Cardona and Brian Myers (both cool and super chill), Hacksaw Jim Duggan (who was such a sweetheart to me), and Effy. I told Effy how much he inspired me to be more like my true self and he seemed genuinely touched. It meant a lot to tell him that in person as Trixie.
Since I still had plenty of time to kill before showtime, I walked around the mall for a bit and got something to eat. One of the many restaurants in the mall had a delicious chicken sandwich which I thoroughly enjoyed. I would've ordered fries but I'm glad I didn't. My weight loss medication really limits me on how much I can eat at one time.
After hanging out for a while, they let us into the ringside area and I found my seat: front row with my back to the hard camera. What a terrific view!
I made friends with the girl sitting next to me. We bonded while singing to the songs playing before the show started (Kane's "Slow Chemical" theme by Finger Eleven aka his best theme ever) and talking about our love of pro wrestling.
She seemed super sweet and kind of timid...until the show started. Then, whenever one of the heels started yelling at the crowd, she'd usually respond with some form of "FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!" She'd also use both middle fingers during this time. I fell in love instantly lol.
The show was excellent (GCW always has super entertaining shows), especially the main event. In fact, cutie but baddie Charles Mason was thrown out of the ring at one point and landed (gently) right in my lap. While I was admiring how cute he was and wished I could touch more of him, I noticed that his one opponent, Atticus Cogar, was about to bounce off the opposite ropes. Figuring out what was about to happen, I yelled "Oh shit," scooted out from underneath Mason's lovely body and watched as Cogar dove onto him while still seated in my chair. They brawled back into the ring as I retook control of my seat.
Sadly, Effy lost the World Title to Cogar but I was still happy with the show and for Atticus winning the big one. The guy deserved it.
Day still wasn't over at this point. Next: a trip down to Newark and AEW Full Gear.
I thought ahead and bought a prepaid parking pass (say that five times fast). It was fairly easy to get to and the level on which I wound up parking featured a sky bridge that took me straight into the arena. Perfect!
In fact, I thought the entire set up and staff at the Prudential Center were wonderful. Everyone there treated me with dignity and respect; exactly what I wanted when going out as Trixie. Their garlic knots were super hard and potent but that's another story.
This time, I didn't have ringside seats but was in the lower bowl area and had a nice view of the whole ringside area (Jon Moxley entered ringside through the entrance way next to where I was sitting). Also, the way the seats were set up, I was in a row of only two seats. So, no awkward interaction with tons of people coming and going the whole night.
I will say, no matter how successful is WWE when it comes to profits, mainstream recognition, or fan support in general, as far as bell to bell action goes, AEW is the best pro wrestling company in the world. Period. You can debate how many matches needed on this show and why they need so many championships but literally every wrestler brought their best work all up and down the card.
Once again, this turned into a late night as the show didn't end until approximately 12:30 AM. Amazingly, it was super easy to get back to my car and the traffic was super manageable once I left the parking garage. I got back to the hotel by 1 AM and was in bed again by 1:30. This time, my internal clock let me sleep until about 8 AM. Thankfully.
A super busy but super exciting day that reminded me why I love pro wrestling. 🙂
But I was also super tired by this point lol.
