Pronouns

I usually don't get too political on here but I felt it was necessary in this case.

Too many times, people on the right try to discredit and disrespect members of our community by saying something along the lines of, "if they keep changing genders then what do I call them?"

Well, you can start with their preferred name for starters. You can also ask them their preferred pronouns. Of course, you can never go wrong with gender neutral pronouns like they/them.

It's funny that of all the issues facing the LGBTQ community, this one seems to be a major sticking point for the far right. It does go deeper than that with representation for trans athletes, artists, politicians and even just for their employment status.

Think about it: you have a whiny blonde cry about "losing" to an athlete and blaming it on the other person being trans. Yet, everyone forgets that the ditzy blonde (who, surprise surprise, is now constantly a talking head on TV) actually tied for fifth in her race.

In other words, a person's gender at birth had nothing to do with the blonde bimbo's performance. But try telling that to the brick wall that is the far right.

Now, does a person's birth gender give them a competitive advantage in athletics if they transition? I'm not an expert and have no idea. I was a solid C student in Health and Science from fifth grade up through senior year of college. You need to find someone with more knowledge than me for that information.

However, if there is no advantage for a trans athlete, then sore losers do need to quit using birth genders as a crutch.

One reason I bring this up is not only because I keep seeing that ignorant blonde pop up on my news feed or TV listings but for another very important reason. A person whom I've been chatting from one of the apps is trans. She prefers feminine pronouns. I have no problem respecting those requests.

For those wondering, here's how I handle pronouns:

When I'm Trixie, it's she/her. For my masculine self, it's he/him. If you're ever not sure, I won't be insulted by they/them.

Just using my preferred name at the time is probably best though.

As I've stated before, my mom is the only one who gets a pass on this. She's almost 75 years old and has called me by my birth name for almost 39 years. She's earned the right to call me whatever she wishes.

Still, you'd hope that people could respect one another to use their preferred names and pronouns. Of course, that actually requires one side to actually acknowledge and respect that the other side exists.

Based on the rhetoric continuing from the far right, they don't respect us and only acknowledge us to use as some phony bogeyman to scare their base.

Maybe the next political cycle can bring about true, lasting change to benefit the LGBTQ community. But, based on how I see lots of people acting daily, I won't hold my breath.
